Big Basin Vineyards
Old Corral Syrah
Deep purple in color with a strong nose.
Dry on the palate and full bodied with medium plus acidity.
Showing black fruits, oak, spices, light vanilla, tobacco, peppercorn, espresso, chocolates, cola, acetone, light barnyard, vegetables and herbs.
Tangy and spicy. Rich and fruit forward.
A little past its prime, but still very drinkable.
Good by itself and better with food like a nice piece of steak. I paired it with cheeses and crackers.
A blend of 86% Syrah, 13% Grenache and 1% Viognier. Aged in French oak barrels for 27 months. A small production of only 5 barrels.
88 points.
$55.

Loving this Syrah from @bigbasinwine. Blend of Syrah, Grenache, and Viognier. Complex and powerful. Drinking nicely!

Cloves, black peppers, and smoky charcuterie notes are complemented by ripe red berries and positive acidity. Oak treatment is cleverly judged, allowing its sweet, grainy tannic structure to shine on the spicy finish. Drinkability and ageability combined.

Sep 10th, 2016Seriously structured and still very young, providing severe tannins, toasty oak, dark cherries and Vahlrona chocolate flavors with minerality kicking in big time on the structured finish, echoing Hermitage similarities thanks to the roasted herb additions. Give it another five years.
