Beta Wine
Chuy Vineyard Moon Mountain District Chardonnay
Popped and poured; no formal notes. The oak is beginning to integrate now and the potential the wine showed upon release is beginning to slowly show itself. This is very much on the Montrachet end of the spectrum, rich and decadent tropical fruits…and seemed to get better with time time in the glass. I have one bottle left and plan to hold until at least 2028…possibly longer.

Jul 31st, 2022Popped and poured; consumed over two days. Pours a bright golden color. On the nose, this is quite restrained. Notes of tropical fruit and honey but seems somewhat reticent. On the palate, this is fresh and rather elegant. Lemon curd and tropical fruit. Very nicely balanced with good acid. The vines for this wine were 45 years old; dry-farmed and head-trained. The wine saw large format new oak. This is a restrained Chardonnay that is a very nice change of pace while remaining true to its varietal character; a one-off as the Chuy Vineyard was ripped out at the end of the 2018 harvest. I won’t be touching another bottle until 2025 as I believe the best is yet to come.

Apr 14th, 2022Bought a bunch of these after the vineyard was ripped up. A beauty. Lots of depth and opulence.

Dec 4th, 2020Touch cloudy...med lemon yellow. Real power on the palate. Not a great deal of ripeness...some green stems, tart apple, and toasted brioche. Nice balance between fruit, acid, and weight. I like the power and the wine proved a nice partner with veal Piccata and rich buttered pasta. Glad to have three to play with...I think at least 3-5 years of development before popping another.
