A note I could’ve written before tasting. Despite a wonky cork, rich, nicely integrated fruit and fading tannins. Elegant, with a plummy perfume, light cocoa and leather, earthy richness.

Always great to see a snapshot of an incredible vintage on the North Coast. We tend to get wrapped up in 'cool climate' varieties around here so it's rad to get some exposure to Napa Cab with a few years of age... Especially out of Magnum.

Good showing for the 97. Some greenness that was evident a few years ago is not there anymore In a good drinking zone.

Beginning to lose some fruit. Interestingly enough, of the three yr. vertical I recently drank, 95/96/97, the one I expected to show the poorest, 96, showed the best.

On the technical sense, this one gets a 93.8 from me. I definitely have a soft spot in my heart for aged Beringer Cabernet PR's. This one had a little bit of a black cherry and mushroom nose with a hint of Ash. However, the entry was very lovely with stone-ground black cherry fruit, fig, very ripe tobacco. The middle has ample weight and building acidity. Finish is lovely still with bright acidity and complexity. Would have thought this was a 2004. These 1997's have definitely impressed all across the board, not just with Beringer. I think I probably got to this one after it had been open about 1 or 2 hours. I think it is the right time to drink. If you have some of these in your cellar, you better get started!
