Beaulieu Vineyard
Private Reserve Georges de Latour Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon
A fabulous showing from BV, boisterous and juicy it captures the coveted “Rutherford Dust” character in its tannic structure. One of Napa’s most historic wine going strong in recent vintages.

Apr 24th, 2017In 1900, Georges de Latour's wife, Fernande, first saw their original Rutherford vineyard, she named it "beau lieu," or "beautiful place." Blend of 94% Cab Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot, and aged in 94% new French oak, dark and enticing, with complex berry flavors and sweet spice, noting some floral scents. On the palate, cherry and blackberry flavors with cacao notes and spices on firm yet approachable tannins. Lingering finish with toasty oak notes ending with mineral tones. Very nice but needs more time!

Mar 21st, 2017Showing light cranberry, blood orange. Rather oxidized at this state but holding on to the cedar, vanilla characters well enough on resolution.

Aug 15th, 2016Previously had coravinned this bottle. The color is dark garnet with brown edges. The nose of this is very intriguing. Within the nose there is vanilla (probably from the oaking), black cherries, very tight still and for some reason something like brandy. The palate starts off a little sweet and has moderate tannins (6.5/10) with a moderate body. Balanced with a drying moderate finish. Not as dry as a french bordeaux and actually seems to have another varietal in it but it says 100% cab. Was thinking that this may need decanting but the odd brandy nose didn't wear off. Overall I was expecting more for the top BV, I think I might enjoy them younger but who knows.

Oct 27th, 2015Deep color, really big and full but subtle at the same time. Still a little early.

Dec 12th, 2019Absolute treat to have a 1977 next to a 2009. 77 was smooth with little fruit but paired beautifully with the filet. '09 was still fruit forward and jammed some tannins -- could sit another 5-10 years.

Nov 19th, 2018One of my first true loves- the first great Californian red I ever drank. Like remembering that first kiss.

Sep 20th, 2018Love this wine! So well balanced. Big flavors...big luscious fruit, “Rutherford dust” (earthiness”) and just enough acidity and tannins to balance it out. Hard to drink a $20 cab after this. Sigh...

May 28th, 2018Great start. Velvet middle. Long slow finish. Fruit leans toward subtle black fruit. Minerals noticeable but fruit trumps. Texture is layered and very enjoyable. 2007 is great. Any you rind south of $100 is probably an excellent deal
