See previous note from November 2021. Fresh red fruits of cherry, strawberry and raspberry with red rose aromatics together with loam and some stalkiness. A new World version of a superb Vosne Romanee Bourgogne or even 1er Cru. This wine won Most Outstanding Red Wine at the 2021 Royal Adelaide Wine Show. Of all the capital city wine Shows Royal Adelaide is generally regarded as the most prestigious. Just a gorgeous Tasmanian Pinot Noir.

A bright pale to medium Ruby in colour. Soaring aromatics of. Red cherry, rhubarb, caramel , rose petals and forest floor. Much of this carries through to the delicious palate finishing with fine savoury persistent tannins. Sometimes it’s good to drink an excellent wine in its youth to capture that fresh vibrancy and realise why it scooped the pool at Royal Adelaide this year winning the Trophies for Best Pinot and Best Red Wine of the Show. Quite an achievement in one of the most competitive Wine Shows in Australia. This is a “Judgment of Paris “ type wine which would scatter Premier Cru Candidates in Burgundy. Sourced from leading vineyards throughout Tasmania and will sell out in a flash. Tasted 41 weeks later on 2nd September 2022 with consistent notes. Has that varnishy note to the oak which is not unpleasant. A lovely wine.

Medium crimson in colour. Notes of savoury oak - a trifle overdone but not unpleasant. A blend of fruit from several of Tassies Pinot regions including Derwent River, Coal River and the East Coast. A well blended Pinot showing why Tasmania is the go to area for Aussie winemakers to grow Pinot Noir.

Happy 20th birthday @bayoffireswines 🥳

I was kindly sent this sample bottle to help celebrate the Bay of Fires 20th vintage recently.

Last year we actually visited the Bay of Fires cellar door in the Tamar Valley near Launceston in Tasmania. In fact I still have a few bottles I bought at the cellar door in my cellar.

This 2019 Pinot Noir is available nationally from major retailers and independent stores for around the $61 mark.

We found it a bright garnet red shade in the glass. It’s wonderfully aromatic and I found it quite savoury with earthiness coming through and spice. In the mouth it’s super flavoursome, think juicy plums, raspberries and wild strawberries, with an earthy lengthy finish and just a wonderful depth of flavour overall. This is my kind of Pinot 👌

This wine was sent to me as a sample, I was under no obligation to post about it.

I enjoyed this Bay of Fires 2016 Pinot Noir from Tasmania recently with my Dad who is a big red wine lover. For Tazzie which is a cool climate region, 2016 was the hottest and driest vintage in Tasmania’s history. Some late Jan rain helped produce some good quality fruit.

It’s a ruby red colour in the glass with delicate notes of red berries and an elegant sweet & smokiness to it. In the mouth it has a lovely smooth creamy mouthfeel with sweet strawberry 🍓 fruit upfront with hints of orange 🍊 peel and an ashy/woodiness on the back. The more wines I drink from Tazzie, the more I want to visit!
