Azienda Agricola Ronchi
Barbaresco Nebbiolo
This pop and pour vintage is my favorite by far. Balanced. So pretty (sipping worthy) and stands up to food.

Apr 11th, 2022Medium garnet; medium intensity aromas of tart red cherry, red currant, dry earth, underbrush; dry, medium plus acid, medium plus tannins, high alcohol, full body, medium plus intensity flavors consistent with aromas plus red plum skin and black tea and rose petals; medium plus finish, well balanced, very flavors, very good

Apr 23rd, 2020Particularly virile, full-throttle normale wine for this producer. With the quality of the harvest apparently outstanding at Ronchi, I’m particularly anxious to taste the cru bottling when it becomes available.

Dec 6th, 2019Very reminiscent of the 2010 non-cru Barbaresco but with even more mid palate concentration. Closed for the first day but revealing some lovely perfume on the second. Tannins are surprisingly well-managed, showing flashes of what will be a very elegant wine in another 5 years. Pound-for-pound this is still one of the best buys in Barbaresco. I’m giving perhaps one extra point for long-term potential.

Apr 7th, 2019My favorite vintage so far of the non-cru Ronchi blend. The purity of fruit in good vintages is highly charming and seductive. Briefly decanted before dining on veal saltimbocca, the wine is proving to be forward enough for young drinking but won’t reach prime time for another few years. Rivals the 2010 at this early stage.

Feb 25th, 2018Dark cherry and balsamic-berry notes. Tart with medium-firm tannins. Overall, fair not great.
