See my previous notes from last year. By all accounts, this bottle is an analog of the previous bottles I have enjoyed of the 2021 “Vie Erte”. This time, I was able to track the wine over three days and it never lost power. The fruit and structure are in harmonious balance. I am so excited to try this vintage when it begins to show some secondary characteristics…but I’m fully expecting to see exercise some serious patience. These wines will love for a very long time.

A baby, but still entertaining. Give this one some time in glass and it will reward you. This a subtle, feminine, and yet stunning Barbaresco from a favorite producer.

2 people found it helpfulMar 12th, 2016Popped and poured; due to the setting, this was enjoyed over the course of an hour but I would have really preferred to have taken my time with this. I had my first experience with the 2021 Barbaresco’s from Cigliuti last December when I enjoyed the Serraboella. I found that wine to be stunning. As one could probably imagine, I was therefore, really excited to try “Vie Erte” which is sourced from the family’s modest (only a few acres) holdings in the Bricco di Neive MGA. To my palate, this takes things to another level.
The 2021 “Vie Erte” pours a beautiful ruby color with a brilliant, transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with sensational notes Morello cherry, strawberry, stone fruits, pink roses, talcum powder, camphor, sub-Alpine herbs, exotic Eastern spices, dry gravelly earth and minerals. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish lasts for minutes. This is a drop dead gorgeous Barbaresco. The nose alone is enough to send me to Elysium. There’s impeccable balance. Possibly the best Barbaresco I’ve ever had. Drink now through 2061+.

So happy to have this wine from the Cigliuti sisters. Great vintage, subtle and balanced notes of tobacco, almond cherry, mushroom... with nice acidity and integrated tannins. Drink now... could hold if you prefer tertiary flavors and your wine was stored better than mine. Lovely, understated Barbaresco.

1 person found it helpfulApr 8th, 2019Fantastic Barbaresco from the stellar 2010 vintage. My bottle had seen a little heat stress at some point, but this didn’t seem to diminish the wine. Some darker/richer sour cherry notes, balanced acidity, integrated tannins, beautiful floral notes, cola nut. Fine to open and enjoy now... better with a little air.
