Serraboella Barbaresco Nebbiolo
Barbaresco, Cuneo, Piedmont, Italy

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of dinner. I’m just going to cut to the chase: the 2021 Serraboella is absolutely stunning. The wine pours a beautiful ruby color with a brilliant, transparent core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with gorgeous, concentrated notes of ripe red and dark fruit: Morello cherry, roses, talcum powder, dry earth and exotic Eastern spices. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. This is a sapid Barbaresco with a finish that lasts FOR-EV-ER. There is so much power and grace. So much balance. In such a special vintage, the Cigliuti sisters allowed their fruit from Serraboella to become a wine that is sure to become legendary. Drink now through 2061.

Takes a bit to open up, but well worth the wait. Elegant and soft textured. Pretty feminine- rose petals, button mushroom, sour cherry. Will definitely benefit another 5 years bottle age.

Oct 14th, 2018Proof that the 2014 vintage in the Langhe is by no means uniform. This is an outstanding wine that is wonderful now and will clearly age for decades.

Mar 24th, 2018Claudia Cigliuti brought this with her to New York this week. Almost thirty years old and still displaying incredible poise and pleasure. A joy to drink. Will be collecting this from here on out. An ideal wine.

Dec 2nd, 2017Holy wow. Black truffles and hot tar on the nose; velvet cherries and candied rose petals on the palate. This wine is making my pizza look damn good.

The nose was gorgeous, both wonderfully floral and intense with dark red and blue fruits, as notes of mint, herbs de Provence, tobacco and black olive added depth. On the palate, silky textures were quickly offset by brisk acidity and young fine tannin, yet the Serraboella's underlying tart red berry fruit, dried orange and savory spice persisted throughout the experience. It finished firm, youthfully so, yet long with saturating dark fruits. This is a Barbaresco to follow over the next 15 - 20 years. Beautiful.
