Every time I drink one of these bottles I kick myself for not buying more (even though I buy it by the half-case). Basically my favorite Nero d’Avola in the world. With age it shows leather and dried flowers, raisins and dried cherries and wonderful chalky mineralogy. Great acidity and powdery ethereal tannins.

Gravitas is not a word I associate with Nero d'Avola. Usually I think ripe, fun, juicy, soft. Not here. Full of earth and meat and funk and slightly underripe dark fruit, carried by surprising acidity and enough tannin to give the whole package something to cling to in yours mouth. Moves the bar.

Shoot. Should have bought a whole case. Totally delicious tangy berry leather and bramble tinged with exotic spices. Fabulous acidity.

Happiness in a glass. Leather berries and hints of forest floor. Smooth and silky.

Dark ruby coloration. Medium Translucency. On the nose, cherry, cranberry, earth and leather. On the palate, medium to full body, cherry, strong, persistent and lasting minerality, carrying through a medium to long finish, with hints of leather. Strong tannins and acidity. Interesting red. Not my usual preference. $75 at B-21.

Extraordinary sophistication. I could bathe in this and drink my way out for a week. It would be great for the skin as well.
