Aubert
Carneros Chardonnay
Very enjoyable. Bright, punchy and lifted. Notes of lemon meringue, almonds and honey. Nice example

Sep 21st, 2019In isolation, this is a good chard. Displays bright notes of honey and citrus fruits on the nose. The palate is well behaved with honeydew melon and pineapple. Quite spicy on the mid-palate with hints of nutmeg and other warm spices. However, in comparison to the single vineyard designations, it lacks authority and presence. Still a very good chard. Buying it from the winery appears to be the cheapest option at $65 per.

Jul 20th, 2019There is an exception to every review...AVA designation showed extremely well. I found the acid to be nicely balanced complementing the oak treatment. I can’t think of a better everyday drinker in the Chardonnay category. Solid 94, no questions.

Mar 17th, 2018Fell victim to experiment. I’ve never had Aubert’s Carneros bottle and curiosity got the best of me. At 15%ABV...wow! My first thought at pop and pour was...did I open a SauvBlanc? The acidity on this was insane. In fact, it retained this even after an hour of being open. More nuttiness on this than fruit, though not as intense as the note I get on all Ritchie Chardonnays. Cashew and toasted almond. The ABV wasn’t easily detected, and had a nice weight on the palate. Finish was quite dominant of limestone, stone fruits and miscellaneous mineral driven notes. The oak and vanilla comes through at the very end, but not overwhelming. The one trait I get with Aubert’s SV Chardonnays is lemon cream and while this didn’t have that, it was unique on it’s own. I’d hold for another 2-3 years due to acidity.
