Clare Valley Sparkling Shiraz

So subtle. Not your typical bruising Aussie Sparkling Shiraz. Mellow, integrated tannins, resolved fruit, supporting acid... this wine was in the zone. Excellent aperitif and with nibbles.

Sparkling Shiraz is an Aussie specialty and very appropriate on Christmas Day. This is interesting in that it is made by Ashton Hills with fruit from a 97 year old vineyard in the Clare owned by Wendouree. A rich mouth filling plummy palate with a gentle mousse soft tannins and acid with a long finish. Delicious!

Pretty good stuff. Wouldn't find many occasions for which it's a good fit, but when it works it's great.

Wendouree fruit, be certain to chill or down enough to highlight delicate its spritz. Aged and dried fruit, prunes, raisins and sweet oak. If you're in the mood for this it's incredible.
