Arizona Stronghold Vineyard
Nachise Cochise County Red Rhone Blend
Cochise County, Arizona, USA

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.
Fruity nose of black currants, plums, cooked cherries, light oak, tobacco leaf, herbs, peppercorn and chocolates.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs.
Very dry on the palate with blueberries, black plums, cherries, spices, light oak, licorice, dark chocolates, earth, tobacco leaf, herbs and peppercorn.
Spicy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.
This is a tasty and easy drinking GSM blend from Arizona. Tangy and spicy. Nicely balanced and feels like a California Grenache blend.
Needed 30 minutes to open up and bring out the pretty nose, showing more red fruits as it opens up.
At this point, the Grenache and Mourvedre are more prominent than the Syrah. I really loved the nose here.
Would be nice to revisit it in a couple of years and see how it evolves.
Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food. I paired it with a cheese board.
Grapes are grown at high elevation. A blend of 54% Syrah, 29% Mourvedre and 17% Grenache. Aged in (15% new) oak barrels for 15 months. A small production of less than 5,500 bottles.
89 points.
13.8% alcohol by volume.
$23.

42/30/14/14 blend of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Petite Sirah, 13.9% alc/vol. Garnet red, light to moderate pigment extraction. Red fruit with hints of butter and prune in the nose. Drinks a lot like a Petite Sirah initially in terms of body and flavor profile. Moderate skin astringency on finish. After several hours, cooler flavor profile from Mourvèdre emerges- mint, blueberry- alongside raspberry and cherry flavors of other varietals. Decant and wait for the best in this one

Showing only primary fruit, not much depth or complexity at this point. Juicy, jammy, rich, certainly interesting as it's from a nascent growing region, but rather one-dimensional.

2012 Arizona Stronghold 'Nachise' Syrah Grenache Mourvèdre blend, #Arizona #Azwine @azstronghold. IMO this is one of the best reds ASV produces and shows the promise of Rhone varieties in AZ. Beautiful bouquet of crushed violets and blueberries followed by wild blackberry, red plum and desert thyme notes. The Mourvèdre definitely shows through in this medium-bodied, elegant blend. Long, soft and silky finish. #wine #sommelier #syrah #GSM

Mar 4th, 2013Blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre, Petite Sirah and Grenache. Aromas of black fruit, juniper berries and barrel smoke. Blackberry and black raspberry fruit flavors with additional notes of dark chocolate, black pepper and dried herbs. A strange metallic and funky aftertaste. Not very well balanced as the acidity is quite low. Medium bodied. Not a favorite. May be past its prime.
