Arianna Occhipinti
Siccagno Nero d'Avola
A little bit more purple fruit and earth with more of a bass note as compared to the Frappato, both are gorgeous but I went back to this more

If Sicilian Nero D’ was made by a Burgundy garagiste, it would taste like this. High quality tannins that add some gravitas to an otherwise fresh and lively example. Outstanding.

Nov 5th, 2023“Siccagno” is becoming so challenging to find around here anymore and I have little doubt that we can thank Stanley Tucci for that! Siccagno is Arianna’s Nero d’Avola and comes from the Sicilian name for the variety. This bottle was popped and poured, consumed over 3 days and I found this to be drinking its best on Day 3. Deep ruby color with a nearly opaque core. Medium viscosity. On the nose, dark cherry, plum, leather and dusty earth. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with dark cherry fruit, dried strawberry and earth again. Medium tannin and medium+ acid. A delicious and utterly charming wine. The more wines I try from Arianna, the deeper I fall in love.

Oct 15th, 2021Superb. Sour cherry, pomegranate, violets, sweet food friendly tannins, crowd pleaser but has real elegance

Jan 11th, 2021Another delicious red wine from Arianna. Big and bold with ripe (almost stewed, but not overly prominent) red cherry, balanced with some grippy tannins and acidity. Better with some air. Served lightly chilled. Lovely wine with something for both the wine geeks, and the big-red-wine crew. Biodynamic, only 12.5 ABV, aged in 3000 liter casks.
