Tinto Bom red Vinho Verde from Portugal is young, but unlike the white Vinho Verdes, it is actually aged several years. It’s a perfect complement for an Indian meal. There’s complexity and a great subliminal flavor that works with the food, but doesn’t fight it. The tannins are very low and it’s served chilled to maximize that effect. Look to pay just under $20 a bottle. Tinto Bom is made from Tinta Nacional grapes. It offers a grapey, earthy nose and a slightly fizzy appearance, much like Lambrusco. This wine has a complex palate of somewhat muted flavors, allowing the food to step forward and be the star of the show.

A slight effervescence and not too sweet or acidic. It’s heavier than I expected from a vinho verde/chilled red, but without the complexity. I’d like to try it again with different food or on its own, rather than with seafood tapas.

So juicy and bubbly. Low tannin, black fruit.

Lots of effervescence out of the bottle, dry, jammy dark fruit, gains a funky element as it opens up and smooths out.

Picked it up for around $25 at LOU. Slight effervescence characteristic of a vinho verde but deep flavors. Raspberries and slight bret. Really great value here.

Light bodied Red Vinho Verde. Crispy and clean with hints of fresh herbs, raspberry and cherries. Just take a Vinho Verde and boost tannins and acidity, brought to you by early grape skin. The taste is just conflicting as I recognize the characteristics of the Vinho Verde that I love but mix with another wine in the same glass... I want to like this one but is really hard to pair with anything.... Maybe spicy Korean food ? Otherwise will fight ( an win ) flavors of any meal. Fist glass will make always make you rise your eyebrows in surprise (puzzled) and take a second look to the bottle. I do appreciate the concept and maybe down the line something amazing may be waiting but as right now this is a curiosity to enjoy with an open mind and specific meals.
