Deep Ruby color with dark berry fruit aromas and oaky notes. On the palate flavors of ripe blackberry with cherry flavors, oak, pepper and some hints of smoky vanilla spice. Ok mouthfeel, good balance, fine firm tannins, medium finish ending with soft oak. Drink now, no aging benefit!

Alexander Valley Vineyards is owned and operated by the Harry Wetzel family. Founded in 1975, it is located on Cyrus Alexander's old homestead. Aromas of dark berry fruits with sweet spice. On the palate cherry and blackberry flavors with cacao and light pepper spice. Fine tannins good drinking now, ok balance with medium finish.

18 year old cab always exciting to try. Unfortunately this bottle was past its prime. However, the real lesson here is that I shouldn’t buy aged cabs that I know nothing about. Without a recent vintage as a reference it is hard to say whether this wine is past its prime or just underwhelming to begin with.

Young as all get out but not too bad. Lots of red, ruby, dark cassis, touch of spice, loads of baking spices, caramel, loamy soils, violets and dry red florals. Finishes decent for such a young wine. @ Centurion Lounge SFO

My Rating 90 Points.
Price $20.

Ah, it’s time for my Friday’s Cabernet fix.

Deep purple in color with a purplish rim.

Nice nose of blueberries, cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, eucalyptus, spices, chocolates, smoke, black pepper, cloves, alcohol, cola and leather.

Full bodied and bold with medium plus acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, graphite, cola, spices, peppercorn, smoke, chocolates, oak, vanilla, licorice and eucalyptus.

Medium plus in finish with firm, angular tannins and tart cherries.

This is a great Cabernet from Sonoma County, California.
Not fully balanced right now, but rather harsh with big tannins. But showing nice complexity and mouthfeel.

Good right out of the bottle, but better after an hour, once it opens up, and shows some of the tannins. Will be better in 3 to 7 years.

With the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were also blended smaller quantities of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petite Verdot. Aged for 14 months in oak barrels.

I paired it with short ribs and grilled vegetables.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

My bf and I had a bottle at our favorite restaurant, and it was delicious. Slightly sweet, and very rich. Since then, we have bought 6 different bottles at different venues, and the wine was bad. The cork had crystallization on it. I tried writing the vineyard, but no response. I wouldn't take a chance of buying this wine, too expensive for bitter, spoiled wine!

For a bottle you can reliably find at the grocery store, pretty decent. It is certainly made in a a style that I don’t drink much of, but it is well made for the price.

Time for my #FridayCabernetfix. This week it's from Sonoma County.

Dark ruby in color with a purplish rim.

Fruity nose of blackberries, black currants, plums, cherries, chocolates, smoke, licorice, oak, vanilla, spices, vegetables, black pepper and vinaigrette.

Full bodied and soft with medium plus acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with plums, cherries, sweet raspberries, tobacco, oak, licorice, light vanilla, vegetables, river rocks, spices, peppercorn and dark coffee.

Medium on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cranberries.

This 2 year old California Bordeaux Cabernet based blend is still young, and a little disappointing. Unbalanced with mild complexity. I've had previous vintages before and they were always great. Might need an additional year in the bottle to mature.

Needs a couple of hours to open up properly.

A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 3% Malbec, 2% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Aged for 14 months in oak barrels.

14% alcohol by volume.
