Aug 29th, 2018The volume is turned way up on this 2015 Albert Mann Gewürztraminer. The nose explodes with pungent aromas of canned pear, lychee, musk melon, jasmine, and spice. Nervy acidity cleanly dissect a palate that is rich and viscous—there's lots of energy and tension in this wine along with a finish strewn with white pepper, jasmine tea, lemongrass and crystalline minerality. Tonight I am having a Gewurztraminer from Alsace. The nose is giving me notes of orange, lychee, honey, ginger and a bit of minerality. On the palate I am getting a very oily and viscous wine with notes of peach, apricot, mango, and some allspice. This has a medium low acidity and it is a bit on the sweeter side than I would like, but still a nice wine. I believe I bought this for around $21.99.

Great typicity for a Alsace Gewurtztraminer. Heady tea rose and white flowers on the nose. On the palate, distinct lychee and some brown Indian spice. Also bursts of candied tropical fruits. Off-dry...would like a touch more acidity. Not for the faint of heart!!
