Alban Vineyards
Seymour's Vineyard Syrah

High expectations, but not nearly as good as I expected for something with such small production (50 cases)

Unreal. Intense purple color, with an incredible nose of camphor, violet, iodine, and roasted meat - classic Alban syrah aromatics. A tannic beast on the palate - probably needs several hours of decanting (which we didn’t do - will for next time) - the wine has a rich, viscous mouthfeel with layers of flavor that evolve through a finish that lasts over a minute. Awesome.

No detailed notes but this was in a nice place flavor/finish wise. Drinking nicely but still can easily make it at least another 3-5 years, possibly longer. Certainly one of my favorite winemakers John is both a nice guy and showcases his talent excelling with the Rhône varieties as a trailblazer. Bravo!
