Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
WNH event number 3...new world Pinot. Such a treat to experience the many different variations of Pinot!
One of my bottles. Time has been kind to this as it’s not as bold and rich as it was 2yrs ago. This is still big and extracted Pinot done in Bevan’s signature style. Lots of ripe red and black fruit flavor, licorice, graphite and a rich/maple note on the mid palate and finish.

Feb 22nd, 2018Compliments of @ADAM STROMFELD who is a partner at Addax with Russ Bevan slinging the grapes. Very luscious, bold, modern style Pinot. Super polished.

Nov 10th, 2017On the nose; smoke, grilled meats, blackberries, black plum, dark cherries, black raspberries, dry cranberries, olallieberries, dry herbs, slight tarry notes and wild dark florals. The body is big with M+ tannins. Heat lifting dark spices take over the palate on entry. Slightly candied; blackberries, black plum, plum, ollieberries, dark cherries & dry cranberries. Smoke, grilled meats, lots of baking spices, crushed rocks, limestone, raspberry cola, nice acidity and nice, round finish. Little hot on alcohol & a bit sweet for my taste. This is another producer that let's their fruit hang on the vine as long as it can to raise the sweetness. Done to please a certain wine critic. Not my style but understand there is a market for it.

Aug 27th, 2017Still so surprised seeing a Bevan wine around 14.5ABV! Very much a cab lovers pinot. Grilled black cherry, black peppercorn, potpourri and cedar aromatics. The palate shows candied cherry covered smoked meat and it finishes with cherry liqueur and licorice. Better balance than the ‘14, but less acidity than the ‘16. I believe these wines are made to be consumed young, and with the few years of age here, acidity has mellowed out. While not my typical Pinot to enjoy (this is anti Sonoma Coast, whole cluster type pinots), the flavors are delicious and age has helped reign in this bull in a china shop.

1 person found it helpfulMar 18th, 2020Bevan makes a pinot at 14.3 ABV?! Granted, it tastes hotter than that and is still what I call a cab lovers pinot. However, the smoked meat, grilled black cherry, black peppercorn, and potpourri aromatics were stellar. Candied cherry covered beef jerky palate and finish. This is the best young Addax Pinot made to date, in my opinion. Thanks, @Bill Makens .

Bright ruby red. Tons of layers on the nose with twigs, bark, a bit stinky, white pepper, white and purple floral notes, and red berries. Once it got up to room temperature blue fruit started coming out. Heavy acidity (7/10) and medium tannins. Medium bodied with an elegant side with floral notes. Powerful too for a pinot with blue fruits, raspberries and spices. Long and lingering finish. Drink till 2025.

@Shay Aldriedge The hits just keep on coming from Shay! Thanks bud! Awesome Pinot!!! I scored this one slightly higher than the Montagu. There were a lot of similarities between the two in regards to balance &. Acidity. I found the Addax to be a little deeper and complex in regards to mouthfeel and spice note. The color reflects is a little darker as well. Both were phenomenal it I would give a small edge to the Addax. However!!!!!!!!! At almost twice the cost is it twice as good??????
I would venture to say "No". The Montagu crushes it in regards to QPR.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is what I call damn good wine. Got to enjoy this courtesy of Josh Peeples at his place, one of the winemakers alongside Russell Bevan. The Addax label is small production, led by those two, and the quality is as to be expected. Sourced from Gap's Crown. This is a cab lovers Pinot. It is dark ruby red, has fairly slow moving legs, and is all about the red and blue fruits. Tiny bit of mint.
