Abbazia di Novacella (Stiftskellerei Neustift)
Praepositus Alto Adige Valle Isarco Grüner Veltliner
Valle Isarco / Eisacktal, Alto Adige, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy

Delectable - this was a Kerner not a Gruner Veltliner. Had this at our son’s Wedding Dinner. No notes but have not had many Kerners in my time. Like a hypothetical cross between a Riesling and a Chardonnay.

Lovely texture and nose, but a touch round and sweet on the palate. Good length and complexity

First Sudtirol Gruner I’ve had. More of a wooly, Chenin texture but also with the reductive nose I’d expect from Chablis. More eggs than flint. Boozy at 14% with ripe notes of papaya and nectarine. Wouldn’t have guessed it was already four years old. Neat wine.

Every bit as good as Austrian Gruner. Tropical cream pie nose, soft lemon and faint herbs...Clean and plush aromas. Gentle in the mouth and lively at the same time. Citrus, minerals and subtle green notes in the medium long finish... begs for some mountain cheese

Jan 10th, 2019Tasted at the shop at the Monastery and it was the most impressive (also the reserve Riesling but Cy hasn’t had Gruner), traveled with us for a few days still impressive. Great floral mineral laced nose with lovely lively texture and long finish. This premium line has good offerings
