Seems rather closed in both aroma and palate. Improved and opened up after an hour or two. Dinner at #25 and went well with pork dish. Notes of dark red fruits and firm texture. Perhaps in sleepy stage. Thought to contrast with Hope Well. On day three in Eto the nose opened up! Texture still good. Raise by one to 8.9. — 6 years ago

Really enjoyed this. Trisaetum threw this in when we joined the club this spring (we were there for the dry reislings). Typical cherry on the nose but had lots of earthy tones that made it very interesting. Would drink more…this is #25, not #24 — 4 years ago

Seemed to have gone over the hill. More acids then anything else though the bones and structure are there. Not bad with ribs for Evan's BD dinner at #25. Interesting! Tasted better after two days in Cali bottle. More enticing mushroom and forest floor on nose and livelier texture. Upping by 2 to 9 — 5 years ago

First opened dinner at #25 with mild Asian ribs and much too new world oaky style of Syrah with intensity and some creaminess on palate and finish. Switched to Barnham Pinot which works much better. This will be used for more intense meaty dishes. — 7 years ago

Villa Pillo is a small estate producing world class wines in the heart of Tuscany between San Gimignano and Volterra Villa Pillo’s estate specializes in high quality bottlings of selected vineyards focused on the estate’s main varieties – Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Franc as well as the Tuscan dessert wine Vin Santo. Extensive manual operations in the tending of the vineyards and throughout the winemaking process result in handcrafted wines reflecting their origin; the hillside slopes of Elsa valley, an area which is found at the center of a triangle formed by the Tuscan cities of Florence, Siena and Pisa.
Tasting Note:Enticing aromas of violet, black currant and rosemary are accented by licorice and tobacco flavors in this fluid and harmonious red, with fine tannins gracing the long finish. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignonand Merlot.

Very pleased with this wine! Stone fruit, papaya, florals, almonds, minerals and mild honey and vanilla. 45 min decant. Butter was present on the nose but surprisingly not on palate!
To me this shows more Burgundy in style 👍..appreciate the 13% alc.
Apparently this is #25 of Wine Enthusiast top 100 of 2021. It also received a rating of 94 from ? Every time I pick up the glass it changes! — 5 years ago

A lighter, more elegant version than its cousin, #2. A distinct apple note, with pear and a floral scent. Structured and light on the tongue. Pleasant by itself. Slightly cheaper than #2, but probably a bit more sophisticated. Pandemic bottle #25. — 6 years ago
