We've rounded up a few picks from Vinous critic, Ian D'Agata and fellow Delectable users. Enjoy a bottle made from the Muscat grape today. Cheers! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Check out this excerpt from Ian D'Agata's article Asti & Moscato d'Asti: The Delightful Lightness of Being : "Asti and Moscato d’Asti are two of Italy’s best-known and most delicious sparkling wines. Light in alcohol and strong on flavor, Asti and Moscato d’Asti are the ultimate party wines, but they can be remarkably nuanced and terroir-specific, too. At their best, the wines offer aromas and flavors of orange blossom, pear, peach, sage, vanilla and other sweet spices, and are an absolute joy to drink on their own, as aperitifs or with fruit and cream-based desserts. Asti and Moscato d’Asti are both made in Piedmont, and while they undoubtedly share similarities, they are distinct wines and deserve to be appreciated for the their own merits. Both Asti (formerly known as Asti Spumante) and Moscato d’Asti are produced in 52 communes within Piedmont spanning an area roughly 9,700 hectares, by a whopping 3,700 different producers. There is slightly more Asti than Moscato d’Asti made: for example, of 85 million total bottles produced in 2016, 54 million were of Asti and 31 million were of Moscato d’Asti." -- Ian D'Agata, Vinous, December 2018 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Check out these Moscato facts from the Vinous Grape Guide: Color: White Weight: Light Where: Piedmont, Italy What: White orchard fruit and sweet floral notes are the signatures. Bright straw-green with golden tinges. Varietally accurate aromas and flavors of Moscato Bianco (orange blossom, vanilla and sweet spices, grapefruit) are very fresh and clean. Finishes very long and lovely, with noteworthy energy and focus. One of the best Moscato d’Asti of the vintage. (Ian D'Agata, Vinous, December 2018) — 17 days ago

My favorite Moscato d'Asti, mineral drive just perfect, sweetness kept to the absolute minimum. We've been buying this bottle for almost 10 years, never enough in the cellar.

Vivid pale golden straw. Enticing aromas of ripe yellow apple, tangerine, lemon ice and sweet spices have a musky undertone. Then bright, lively and pure, offering deep, complex flavors of fresh citrus fruit, sage and minerals that linger impressively on the floral and very long back end. Another standout Moscato d'Asti from Romano Dogliotti; La Caudrina confirms itself as one of the true benchmark wines of the denomination (Dogliotti's usually richer, more concentrated 2018 La Galeisa will be released around March 2019). Best Italian sparkling white wine of the year: If I had a big enough goblet, I’d fill it up and go swimming in the stuff (with my mouth open, of course). (Ian D'Agata, Vinous, January 2019) — 5 months ago

Bright pale yellow. Intense, pure aromas of grapefruit skin, crystallized ginger, aromatic herbs and honey. Juicy, precise and penetrating, with luscious yet taut flavors of lemon thyme, vanilla, ripe citrus and pear accented by honey and maple syrup. Closes luscious, long and very dense. Made with grapes grown in 33- to 38-year-old Moscato Bianco vineyards. (Ian D'Agata, Vinous, December 2018) — 17 days ago
