Kyè Langhe Freisa
Langhe, Cuneo, Piedmont, Italy
This is a new grape variety for me from Langhe.
Reddish in color with a purplish hue.
Showing strawberries, raspberries, tart cranberries, light herbs, earth and dark chocolates.
Medium bodied with medium plus acidity.
Dry on the palate with mild complexity.
Tangy finish with fine grained tannins.
A very interesting dry red from Langhe. Feels like Nebbiolo.
100% Freisa grapes were aged for 9 months in mostly large Slavonian oak barrels.
14.5% alcohol by volume.
89 points.
$60.

As suggested by “Martinelli,” I sampled a novel grape variety from Piedmont. Initially characterized by its tannic and acidic profile, the grape exhibited a remarkable transformation, achieving a more harmonious balance over time.
