The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Castello di Volpaia is a dark, powerful wine. Black cherry, smoke, licorice, incense, mocha menthol, lavender and leather infuse this virile, brooding Riserva with tons of character. In this tasting, the Riserva stands out for its depth and weighty substance. This is a decidedly virile wine from Volpaia. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, August 2019)

Quite nice. Well balanced classic Chianti. $60 at a restaurant. Probably a good store buy.

Solid Chianti but I’m not as high on it as wine spectator is!

Dark red fruits, nutmeg, hints of menthol/eucalyptus and licorice. Mellow and smooth tannins. Top 3 chianti for me. Not quite as sumptuous as the 2015.

Infantacide but wanted to see if this was up to its accolades....initial impression was no but after an hour of air it was singing....day two even better. A very enjoyable wine now that could be spectacular down the road...

No where near the 97 points given by WS. Still a very nice chianti but i preferred the 2015. This one had a bit too much tartaric acid to my liking.
