Meaty, iodine, & red currant on the nose. Palate much more opulent than expected. Different but slightly less enjoyable than the Thymiopoulos.

Sipping Fine Wine

Over 20 years ago Konstantinos Karydas established Karydas Estate in Ano Gastra, a well-known grape-growing region in Naoussa. Xinomavro (pronounced ksee-NO-mah-vro) is the noblest red variety grown in Greece. Medium Garnet with aromas of red fruits and spice. On the palate dried red fruit, cherry, cinnamon and oak flavors. Rustic tannins, good acidity balance on a medium finish ending with earthy spices. Wine beginning to show some age. Tasting Sample.

Unique and outstanding wine deep into the off-the-beaten path wine list at a restaurant. This is an excellent first experience tasting a Greek red wine. #xinamavro - pours richer and darker than a Pinot but still a medium bodied wine. Lovely perfume that wafted across our table very soon after opening - some cherry, mushroom and spice on the nose, lighter acidity, more off-dry nature with forest floor trailing off with tongue-hugging tannins. Nice food friendly wine with formidable QPR.
