If you talk Merlot it’s either: better or not as good as Duckhorn. And only the greats are worthy as better. The ‘16 is deep and long. But needed lots of air to open new dimensions (second night was best). I’ll try to wait about 5 years for the next bottle (nah).

I WILL drink a fucking Merlot (if it’s Duckhorn). Dark, ripe, plummy fruit, dark roasted herbs, and deep gravelly-ness. Very clingy and savory. Great purity and length. I have missed out by not buying good Cali Merlot for a long time.

A pre-Mothers day meal that included an experiment of smoked fish and this was one of the two bottles we decided to pair. While it may not have matched the rub spices exactly, this bottle rarely (if ever) is a poor choice. A classic that we will keep having in the future.

Still learning to enjoy Merlot and Duckhorn is one of my favs!! Love the spices, dark berries, modest tannins.

Once it opens up, which takes about an hour, it’s full of complex notes.

Sunday grilling with the father of Napa Merlots. Perfect ruby red color, vibrant rim. Black cherry, plum and vanilla on the nose. The mouthfeel is immediately voluptuous with more notes of black cherry, plum and hints of vanilla and dark chocolate. Extremely smooth and soft; so easy to drink it’s dreamy.
