There is a reason Chave is considered the best. Wines like this. Magic. As it aired it got crazier and crazier. What texture!

Taken to Bicyclette in Carmel. Gave it 5 hrs in a decanter. Dark but bright red color. Amazing nose. Notes of black and red fruit, slate stone, spice, menthol and dark soil. Perfect balance of fruit, structure and acidity in the mouth. Tannins mostly softened. This was in the zone. Easily had 10-15 more years of peak enjoyment in front of it. Bravo!

Tasted blind. Bright scarlet tawny. Barely translucent. Notes of cherry, hickory, sweet fruit, smoked meat, some spice and a little menthol. Silky and rich in the mouth. Coats the mouth with luscious fruit. Very long finish. Love the 95 Chave as it always delivers.

Reddish tawny to the rim. Barely translucent. Exotic and exciting nose. Notes of black cherry, ripe cranberries, iron, dried brush, pepper, dark soil and menthol. Velvet glove in the mouth. Rich. Ethereal. Long finish. Still young. Really good and can improve.

1995: Kermit Lynch import. Color less vibrant than recalled. Somewhat reticent nose. Pretty tart in the beginning (without food), yet developed over time. This bottle, while cosmetically perfect, seemed to be in an awkward moment, with a fair amount of tannic bite. There is plenty of fruit, but was in a backward phase. Quite enjoyable nonetheless, with Chave being an absolutely favorite producer.

The 1995 Syrah was very light and Burgundian with notes of sandalwood.
