What a nose. Deep plush plummy fruit with violets, roses, bloodiness, iron. This is so lively and bright still. Very delineated and plush but with structure that makes everything shine. Lush and gorgeous.

This bottle was perfect. Single owner. Big Cabernet with all the edges softened. Dense core to the fruit. No significant signs of fading. Best bottle I've had of this in recent memory.

The bottle of 1982 Léoville Las-Cases was sadly out of condition, though fortunately I tasted another example at a private dinner in Bordeaux a few weeks later. To be honest, I have always preferred the 1985 or 1986 to this vintage, and this gives me no reason to change my mind. It has a surliness on the nose that is uncharacteristic of this vintage, tightly wound tertiary scents, melted tar and pencil shavings. The palate is full-bodied with fine grip, dense and quite powerful, yet it is more impressive than pleasurable. The aforementioned vintages have pulled away from the 1982 in recent years, though it remains a very fine Saint-Julien. It just needs to turn its frown upside down. Tasted blind. Red scarlet mixed in with dark tawny color. Bright fruit meets you from the start. This is still very young, chewy and has some strong tannins. This is evolving at a glacial place. Probably will be a wine for my kids to enjoy. 94 but will surely score higher down the road.

Fantastic bottle of wine that was completely reflective of the house and the vintage, powerful velvet covered magic carpet ride of deep red fruits...concentrated and weighty yet showed a lot of finesse. I'd say it has 15+ years
