Nerello Mascalese can age beautifully. Dusty tannins wrap around a core of raspberry and mulberry and cranberry that are leaning towards earthier flavors of leather and clay. Excellent acidity and as always that crushed stone minerality that makes these volcanic wines so compelling. You’d never guess this was 15.5% alcohol. Yes, Etna is warm.

Alcool troppo dominante ma grande classe. Elegante, equilibrato al naso.

(These are night 2 notes. On night 1 it seemed tired and a bit hot.)

On night 2 this seemed more youthful than the first night. Nose showing warm sandstone, spice cake, and ripe crushed cherry. Mouthfilling but athletically lean, with excellent acidity, particularly for a wine that has 15.5% abv. Long, pure finish with some puckery soft tannin. Great with a rich, meaty tomato-based pasta sauce.

Love this Nerello. Balance of fruit, minerality and a touch of oak. More full than many nerello's but not as modern as others. Really amazing. Glad this is finally available in AZ.

Would prefer to drink this younger(?), and at cooler temp. Starting to show secondary, oxidative character, which I am not sure if this is from age or storage. Good, but not quite as fresh, or vibrant, as I imagined.
