Alvear
Solera 1927 Montilla-Moriles Pedro Ximénez
Montilla-Moriles, Andalucía, Spain

Even more toffee than the Solera Cream, with the obvious molasses comparison coming to mind. Black tea also very evident on the nose.

Alvear 1927 Solera Pedro Ximénez from Montilla-Moriles D.O. Tastes of liquefied apricot candy, pancake syrup. Fruity and highly alcoholic. Had this wine with churros dipped in Dulce de Leche.

The NV Solera 1927 is a sun-dried Pedro Ximénez wine sourced from Sierra de Montilla. Aged for 20 years in a very old solera, this mahogany-colored wine offers aromas of caramel, saffron and tar, along with licorice and herbal notes. Very sweet and concentrated, the palate reveals a wild herb core with a balanced and potent mouthfeel. Despite its sweetness, it maintains balance with a warm, rich heart—a unique sip from Montilla. Sweet fig jam, nicely balanced and silky over your - a perfect ending to this evenings line-up.

Dark mahogany. M+ viscosity. Raisins, gigs, prunes, dried fruit, citrus, Christmas fruit cake. M+ acid, rich and full bodied. Mouth coating and a long lingering finish. A classic! Serve with a salty Spanish cheese plate! You'll be in heaven.

Apr 28th, 2013Produced from a 30 year Solera system from dried Pedro Ximenez grapes. Dark mahogany/brown color. Aromas and flavors of burnt caramel, dried figs, roasted nuts, molasses, maple and dark chocolate. Long and lingering finish. Syrupy (but not too heavy) texture and very rich but well balanced due to the extremely vibrant acidity. So interesting. Perfect way to end our lunch, John P!
