Tasting this blind I almost got Vega Sicilia vibes with such array of complexity and constantly evolving aromatics. It is certantly VERY aromatic. Dark currants, prunes, tapenade, dill, pine, espresso. Full bodied and inky.

The heat from the vintage has bowed out of the fight, giving way to the vibrancy and horsepower of fruit these vineyards are known for. I tasted David Abreu’s 2009 Madrona Ranch at Vinous’ Napa in the City two years ago and am being reminded once again how magical of a vineyard site Madrona and Thorevilos are.

Nice Bordeaux blend. A dark garnet red color. A mild-moderate nose: black cherry red fruit, sweet age cab perfume with noted scents of stewed meat, cedar and subtle menthol at the end. Taste is a luscious, juicy, dark-tart cherry full body wine. Minerals, tar and cocoa-espresso notes float around. Graphite, blackberry and caramel like finish—long and satisfying. A complex structure and dense wine giving its multi-layers of taste. A definite favorite and a great wine to celebrate my birthday today!

1 hour decant (lots of chunky/fine sediment). A prodigious inky dark garnet color with little signs of aging. On the nose: sweet aged cab perfume, black cherry, cassis, cedar, slight menthol, and stewed meat. Taste: a rich, juicy, dense, full body wine with dark cherries, minerals, tar, cocoa espresso....with a blackberry caramel long finish...YUM!!!....maybe just a hint of alcohol burn on the end. Drinking great with the decant, ready to go another 8 years.

Wow! This one had a lot of curves - big on the front end at the open. Needs lots of air to slender up into a supple and delicious experience. I'll skip the next paragraph of metaphors to strongly suggest you give this at least two hours of air (or 5 more years in the cellar) to mellow out a bit.
