100% Grande Cru Brut Rose. A “white champagne “ made from predominantly Pinot Noir with 5% Pinot Noir added to provide a lovely burnished pale copper colour. Strawberry notes on bouquet. Egly uses riper grapes than most other growers. Doesn’t add sugar and very little dosage. Nearly all of his grapes come from either Ambonnay or Bouzy.

This has always been up there for desert island wine selection. I could drink this everyday. Missing the prices this used to be at (which was still expensive 😂 for me). Structured yet incredibly refined with this disgorgement. Savory depths abound. Crushed ripe strawberries, peach skin, tangerine, chalk, prosciutto rind, salt, cream, a kiss of cooling brown spice, orchard blossoms. 70 PN 30 CH, 63 months sur lees, 10/2020 disgorgement

One of three bottles of bubbly (2014 Ultramarine BdN and 2010 Larmandier-Bernier VV du Levant) opened when a good friend, @Shawn R , was in town. EO is one of my favorite champagne producers, but this was actually my first experience with the rosé.

5yrs on the lees, disgorged mid 2019. Slightly orange pink in the glass. Initially, it was very razor sharp and intense. Jasmine, orange zest, and dried apricots on the nose. On the palate, the intensity picked up with a strong backbone of limestone, chalk, tangerine and some honeysuckle. When this paired with food, it showed its true colors with a touch more body and richness. Even more impressive was how much better this was on day two...likely a champagne that could benefit from a decant at this age. Much more creamy and showing more red Berry fruit like raspberries, rhubarb and also a little floral. Yeast driven notes didn’t appear until day two. Complex, intense and lots of potential.

Winemaker Francis Egly has earned a place at the very top of the grower Champagne elite, and his wines have achieved "cult" status. A blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay, from about 5 vintages, with a bit of Ambonnay Rouge. Great floral bouquet of red berry fruits and some complex spice. Apple, strawberry and cherry flavors, good minerality, dry on the mouthfeel with nice berry fruit on the finish. I was lucky enough to get a Tasting Sample at a wine gala.

Great stuff. A lot going on with tremendous energy. Best after one hour decant. Great with a radish dish and smoked salmon.

Beautiful light salmon coloring. Ripe raspberries and earthiness in balance with a long complex finish. Disgorged October 2016. SS
