Haven’t had in a long time. Nose has that 15-itis. Can tell it’s from a warm vintage. Lacks the usual focus. Dead leaves. Muddled berry fruit. Palate is much better. Really elegant and refined with lovely sweet black cherry and berry fruit and terrific freshness considering 15. Excellent purity and freshness. Trace of heat. Very good in the challenging vintage. Nose is getting better with air. More refined and elegant. Brambly blackberry fruit.

See previous notes from April 2022. This is a “serious “ Beaujolais - nothing frivolous about this. I’m getting notes of plum skins together with red currant. My daughter and part time Delectable correspondent, Georgie loved this. She works in Copenhagen and loves natural and skin contact wines (not that this is) and is home for Christmas. Must purchase more Thivin - my last bottle of 2018.

See previous Delectable note 90 weeks ago. Aromatics of dried rose petals with a little herbal spice and a note of fudge. Great mouthfeel. Medium weight palate and intensity. More “serious “ than your average Beaujolais. Red cherry and red currant and a touch of liquorice. Light tannins. This has enough stuffing to cellar for a couple more years.

Gorgeous Godefroy. Deep and ripe nose of pungent black and red cherries. Gorgeous leather and such amazing clarity and depth. Almost blackberry fruit. Palate has terrific flavor intensity. Wow, so ripe, so concentrated yet so fresh and the minerals wash the palate on the finish. Awesome. Really an epic young Godefroy. Unreal purity and length. This is as good as the 14. Maybe better. We will see with air and a day or two.

Love this old old vine cuvee. Complex nose of mid season cherry fruit, florals, huge rocky minerals and rock dust, some game, and lovely dust. So good. Smells ethereally complex. Like a Gamay forest. Palate is deep, deep, deep and so pure with incredible freshness and mineral energy that cleanses the palate. So juicy. Terrific, grainy and caressing tannins. This is a terrific Godefroy that has a very long life ahead of it. Really great depth and serious midpalate density. But the freshness and waves of energy on the finish are what make this wine extra special.

Really fine. Explosive nose of ripe and tangy red fruit. Intense amounts of crumbly granite minerality. Very vibrant in the mouth, but resolved and soft. So much granite. Great acids. Maybe not quite as focused as the 14s but pretty damn close (and a darn sight better than the 15s).

Darker more animal nose. More brooding. Smokey, blackberry velvet. Soil tones. Dark herbs. Deep, juicy and complex with amazing finesse and such richness. But fresh as a daisy and so so pure. Wow. Amazing minerality and granite . So clean for such a big boy. Sappy and so juicy and more obvious structure and tannin than La Chapelle. Stunning wine. Both are amazing but I prefer Godefroy as it’s deep and dark yet so elegant.

These Thivin single vineyards tho...big, ripe nose of ebullient cherries on the blacker side. Wonderful granite notes as well. Super pure, fresh and clean nose but also oodles of fruit because 15. Big, rope, super duper concentrated with tremendous freshness. Sappy and so pure. Long and so persistent and killer acids. Awesome. Good full tannins and nice refinement. Best 15 I've had so far. Will age 20+ years.

2021 is so crunchy and red and this usually is all dark blackberries but in 2021 it is mostly red but the classic Godefroy blackberries are there albeit restrained and ripe but not inky. Nose is so earthy, minty and red fruited. Gorgeous finesse on the palate and 75% big creamy cherries that have some sour effect and mid season with lots of crunch and also lovely tart blackberries. Great acid spine and purity. Structure to last but joyful today. Long.

I was worried this would be too closed, but with a 4 hour decant, this is really a marvelous wine. So much depth and complexity, great dark berry fruit, with wonderful freshness that goes on and on with the long finish. Excited to see how this evolves over the coming years but don’t at all regret opening one now - just delicious. Really impressed.
