A staple at English weddings, Berry Brothers and Rudd's Good Ordinary Claret is always a crowd pleaser. Fruity with soft tannins, it's a guzzler. At my sister's wedding a 6L version was served alongside the cheese. Pictured here the groom is wielding both this oversized bottle and the sword, from 1855 by Wilkinson, used to cut the cake.

I was thrilled to head back to England this weekend for a wonderful wedding. At the reception we enjoyed Good Ordinary Claret from Berry Brothers. A perennial classic, thee 2015 has juicy tannins, vibrant fruit and attractive leather qualities. A good choice, and rather fun to be served in magnums.

I’ve had this wine many times now and it’s never a bad bottle. A very easy drinking red for mid-week drinking that doesn’t blow the bank either.
