Monthly WTF guys blind tasting group. This month was our annual, and famed, Left Bank vs Right Bank theme. All wines served blind as usual. Started off with a Rosé and a champagne. Great night.
Another producer I was not familiar with. Great aromatics of espresso, blackberry jam & baked fig. Palate was blue and black fruit dominant with sandalwood and dark chocolate. Touch sweet. Enjoyable now. I called this ‘12-14 Right Bank. Thanks @Michael Rariden .

Popped and poured; consumed over a five hour period. This bottle came from my cellar. Two immediate reactions were 1) the inside of the bottle looked like it had a patina of sediment coating the side it was laying on and 2) the fruit smelled stewed and overripe. However, it tasted nothing like that. Instead, it was much brighter with dark and red fruits, earth and baking spices with a hefty bit of acid lifting everything up. After about 90 minutes, the nose became much more vibrant with red rope licorice, oldleather and cedar chest. Close to the end of the bottle, this wine was showing it’s best but it was also beginning to show more structure with tannin and acid taking a more central role. Strange experience. Not sure what to make of the future for this. Wishing I had more clarity...and another bottle to see if these become something special with more age...or nothing special at all.

2006. It's a Bordeaux night. Dark crimson almost black in color. Decant for 45mins. Not enough. The nose is strong prunes and plum. Lots of funky earth. Palate is dry and a bit ashy. Finish lingers and the fruit presents at end. An interesting moment for this wine.

Powerhouse red with cinnamon stick, smoky, black cherry, powdery graphite, blueberry powder, dried mint, leather, Indian corn, and anise seed. Rich, full mouthfeel envelops a dehydrated blueberry, black pepper, black currant, mint, oregano, endless graphite and charcoal stick that scribble beautifully in undulating patterns upon broken river rocks! Not a great vintage, but still an amazing wine with incredible depth.

Upgrade to grand cru classes in 2012 this wine was one of the favorites of a tasting of St. Emilion mineral rock hints of vanilla cinnamon and allspice tannin in control with rich juicy black fruits..
