v16. Really good! Soft smoked meat nose. Bright, juicy blackberry fruit. Clean, dry, black pepper and soft leather finish. Good burger and rib food wine. — 2 years ago
For some reason I love Ridge Zins with a grilled burger. Difficult to describe the notes in this wine.
On the nose: black pepper, blackberry, anise, menthol, floral, slight blueberry and....cherry cola? On the tongue: blackberry, cherry, baking spice, tobacco on the finish. Grippy tannins at first but mellows out extremely fast. Petite sirah cuts through burger fat nicely. Another nice Zin blend from Ridge. — 5 years ago
Out of the 4 wines opened at The Bird, this one edged out the Numanthia 12 by a hair. Quite similar profiles IMO. This Walla Walla Syrah was quite enjoyable with dark black fruit on the front. Consistent with the 2015 I tasted a bit ago but IMO, this one had a bit more of a smoked beef flavor in the middle that the dark sweet and still youthful fruit gave way. Chose this as the "food" wine since most chose the Bird Burger (a grass fed beef burger)....it went rather well. Popular with the crowd of novices and winos, the smoky finish was very complementary. Maybe I might acquire a few of these WA Syrahs afterall to have for these purposes....(not a word, @Shay A .... 😆) — 7 years ago

Mount Bullion Vineyards Casto Oaks Jessie's Zin 2017, Sierra Foothills, California
A very pretty color of ruby with a wide reddish rim, and medium plus intensity.
Dry and fruity on the palate with medium acidity.
Showing black plums, cooked cherries, blueberries, blackberry pie, spices, light oak, vanilla, earth, tobacco leaf, herbs and peppercorn.
Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and red chili pepper.
This 5 year old Zinfandel is drinking very nicely now. Spicy and smoky. Fruit forward and intense.
Good right out of the bottle, easy drinking, and good for parties.
Spicy with mild complexity. Soft and supple. Rich and interesting.
Peaking now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next few years.
Good by itself as a sipping wine, and will pair nicely with a burger.
15.3% alcohol by volume.
90 points.

Perfect wine for the burger and chicken salt fries at Frankie... body, hint of tobacco, spice—didn’t require me to think too much. Harmonizer. — 7 years ago

Loaded with minerality and acidity, this is a fantastic and versatile food wine. Pear and slate on the nose. Hits the palate dry and opens beautifully. Melon and fleshy white fruit balanced by lemon pith. A great version of this blend of German grapes from Sonoma. — 5 months ago
