Ca' La Bionda

Valpolicella Classico Corvina Blend 2018

@Dave Kahler nails this one. Blind, I would have said definitely French. There’s something bready on the nose that you don’t smell in many Italian wines. — 5 days ago

Costasera Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Corvina Blend 2012

I’ve had this Amarone a few times. Not it’s best vintage, but still a good wine with the right food. I’m not sure aging it any more would have made it any better to be honest. — 10 days ago

Acinatico Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Corvina Blend 2015

Opening sweet, but finishing rather dry. Lots of cherries and plum, leather, chocolate and mokka. Still tanine drying off — 18 days ago

Wanted to compare this wine versus the Speri of last week. And this is even thicker than the Speri, extreem packed with flavour, but still lots of tanine to make me put it away for a few more years. ATM I like the Speri just a bit more. Perhaps also try one of the Zenatos??
That is twice the price, but also twice the quality?

Zenato

Classico Superiore Valpolicella Corvina Blend 2017

Complex, long and surprisingly elegant. I’m thinking Zenato gets a bad rap in Italy because it’s a big operation. (And they seem make a lot of mediocre Lugana and Pinot Grigio. Although the PG is not terrible as far as PG from Veneto goes.) — 12 days ago

Ca' Bertoldi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Corvina Blend 2011

Despite how much I like Amarone, this one wasn’t exactly good. One could taste ripped grapes, but it was bitter. I guess this one was a little too old (2011). I had newer ones from this winery that tasted much better. — 2 days ago

Il Bosco Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Corvina Blend 2010

Very pleasant wine. Was a gift from my neighbor- what a great surprise! Enjoyed with chicken with goat cheese and carrot / sweet pepper agrodolce courtesy of Blue Apron. Valpocella has a smooth mouth feel with dark fruit, mineral and smoke. Delightful. — 9 days ago

Tenuta Valleselle

Pieve San Vito Bardolino Classico Corvina Blend 2016

There is a bit of caramel, licorice and cherry with some rose petal scent on this nose. A wide spectrum of scents and feelings to associate it with. The palate is really easy going with a good acid drive, rather straight forward, some matter, some grip on the sides, a spherical mid palate and tannins which tend to expand it and make it wider before a finish with red fruit notes and a fresh after taste that last for a while. Second attempt with this wine in this vintage and it clearly leads me to dig dipper into bardolinos. — 5 days ago

il Lussurioso Classico Amarone della Valpolicella Corvina Blend 2015

Dark and heavy wine. Great for a cold rainy day. Never had one before and really enjoyed it. Not for everyday but has a good time and place. Kind of like an old world jammy Zinfandel. No real tannins to speak of. — 17 days ago
