At Maple & Ash in Chicago, a spot I was really impressed with. This was an elegant wow wine. Crushed rocks enveloped by sweet, dark red fruit. Ample tannic presence but no hard edges and absolutely no raisin-y qualities which can show with an over abundance with Amarone. — 6 days ago

Not sure why I made that connection while reviewing, I’ve had this many times. A couple with you. I just bought some Quintarelli Amarone on-line, perhaps that is it or I’m just old. 🤷🏻‍♂️. None the less, this was in a special place.

Labelled at 16%. Amarone.... I should hate it.... But I don’t. Actually, I quite like it! Brooding dried fruits, raisins, but also freshness and a soft, yet needed tannic grip on the back palate. Pretty impressive! — 19 days ago

Le Bessole Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Corvina Blend 2007

Dark ruby in color with a purplish rim.

Fruity nose with black cherries, oak, earth, raisins, dried figs, vanilla, licorice, cloves, cedar, light vegetables, mint, graphite, tobacco, chocolates, coffee and peppercorn.

Full bodied, smooth and bold, with medium plus acidity and long long legs.

Dry and extremely fruity on the palate with blackberries, sweet cherries, oak, strawberry pie, coffee, vanilla, licorice, cloves, cinnamon, tobacco, leather, earth, light vegetables, herbs and peppercorn.

Medium plus on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cranberries.

This is a very tasty Red from Italy. Not fully balanced yet, but already very enjoyable by itself or with food. Showing nice complexity and a great mouthfeel.

This 11 year old Amarone, needs a few more years in the bottle to mature and balance itself out.

Good right out of the bottle and better and better with time as it needs 3 hours to open up properly and show some tannins.

15% alcohol by volume.

Riserva Costasera Amarone Classico Corvina Blend 2010

2.5 years of aging. This is fantastic. Chewy plum and raisin with fresh cut herbs, pepper, and smoke. This is in a really good spot right now but I’m not convinced it can go the distance. — 9 days ago
