Mendoza Cabernet Sauvignon 1996

This was just bonkers. Purchased recently for $13. Dark but translucent ruby in color and laden with acid on the pop and pour. In the decanter it colored up and shut down. For hours it displayed this deep but slightly standoffish core of black currant fruit, limestone, cedar, tobacco and spice box but with enough fruit to say New World. This could have aged another decade. Amazing. — 7 days ago

Catena Alta Historic Rows Malbec 2015

The nose was overwhelmingly soft ripe cheese rind. I really couldn't smell anything else. Beyond that, the wine drank very well, with currant and ack cherry flavors and long tannins. Held up nicely with pan-seared steak and chimichurri. — 19 days ago

Very smoky and oaky. Almost too much for me. Lots of tannins that really linger. Kind of disappointed, I really enjoy a good Cab Franc but it’s lacking something. Not much fruit, light bodied and tastes watered down. Some may enjoy this but I like more fruit, less oak and full bodied. Nothing wrong with the wine, just not my taste. — 13 days ago

Estate Valle de Uco Malbec 2018

Coffee, cherry, an earthy thing and some flower, petal notes (could it be rose?) . It's not very complex but it's very inviting. The palate is veru well done, quite dynamic and vivid with a strong acid backbone, a nice cherry fruit all along, a nice width, a bit of matter on the sides but the acid drive is front an center here. There is a nice bowl of a mid palate with a nice tannins layer leaving a grain mouthfeel and powering a long cherry finish with coffee notes. It's a great malbec effort in a vivid, dynamic expression. It's almost fresh in the end! — 4 days ago

Never had this grape before. It definitely has plum on the nose. Very fruit forward at first then a little more tannic and oaky after a short decant (because I couldn’t wait) but still very fruity! Very smooth going down. Can’t wait to pair with dinner. — 18 days ago
