Chardonnay

Good. Had one a year ago. Will need another before another year goes by. — 3 months ago

Kumeu River

Rays Road Chardonnay

Beautifully made, textbook Chardonnay. Citrus and smoky floral notes. Perfect balance - steely precision but also generous. You would pick this as top 1er Cru Chablis or a lean Puligny. Very long lemon curd aftertaste. Up there with the original single vineyard offerings from Kumeu. Perhaps less individual but 50% less money and drinking superbly now. This will increase in price!! — 4 years ago

Bodegas y Viñedos Vega Sicilia

Unico Ribera del Duero Tempranillo Blend 1965

My favorite birth year wines are usually Burgundy or Bordeaux's since the hold up so well over time. Unfortunately, the 1965 growing season is known for Cold weather, Rain an Rot!!!! The 1965 vintage is Atrocious!! Michel Broadband called the 65 Bordeaux wine "Mean, Acidic and Short". Robert Parker was even tougher on the vintage!! Everyone that I spoke to and the research that I did pointed me to this Beauty!! 1965 Vega Sicilia Unico. I opened this last night for my wife's birthday. This bottle was in pristine condition with an original price tag of $4.80 on it!! Too funny!! I love finding beauties like this. I wasn't sure what to expect after reading so much in regards to the terrible growing year. This had a gorgeous earthy dried fruit which lightly caressed our palate. It wasn't the typical huge kid on the block with depth, character and conviction that we've enjoyed previously from other vintages. It was actually really cool to enjoy age, grace and playful Beauty. The finish.was relatively short but there it was still very good and somewhat robust. I just wish it lingered a little longer but oh well., it simply made us pick up the glass that much faster!! The wine was Very, very good. The family and friends that we enjoyed it with are awesome!!
The Love that I have for my wife on her birthday and every other day of the year is Priceless!!!
Happy Birthday Babe!!!

South Australia Cabernet Sauvignon

I was pleasantly surprised on how nice this wine tasted. It was slightly sweeter than I’m used to. I had it with Sheppard’s pie and it was very tasty. — 4 years ago

Sauvignon Blanc 2018

We really enjoyed this Cab with steak and mashed potatoes. Fruity with cherries and berries in particular. Seems to be low in tannins, with no aftertaste. Will absolutely buy again. — 6 years ago

The Original California Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Preface by saying I am just getting into wine and that this was my first bottle.

Was on sale at the grocery store so didn't have big expectations but was pleasantly surprised.

First glass was over powered with the tannins but picked up black cherry, raspberry and chocolate notes. Next day the wine definitely mellowed and balanced out more and picked up almost an espresso flavor towards the end.

All in all, this was a wonderfully affordable and tasty wine that I will pick up and enjoy again.

P.S. Great when added to a meat spaghetti sauce for added flavor and the wine has been open for too long ;)

Domaine Ponsot

Clos des Monts Luisants Vieilles Vignes Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Aligoté 2013

Pale gold in colour. Skinnsy aromas with an oxidative note like manzanilla. Lemon blossom with some mineral flinty notes. A lot happening and changing - after a few hours a bruised old Apple note. I think in a line up of Chardonnays in Burgundy one might pick this as the 100% Aligote - it is sufficiently different. Expensive for an Aligote but then again it is Ponsot. Laurent Ponsot is fanatical about accurately translating the terroir - so there is no malolactic fermentation, no new oak, no batonnage,no fining, and no filtration. According to Laurent, the Monts Luisants hillside has been planted with white grapes since the Middle Ages or before. There used to be a little Chardonnay and a hybrid known as Pinot Gouges but by 2004 the latter 2 were grubbed out so that from 2005 the Clos des Monts Luisants Vieilles Vignes consists purely of Aligote from the original 1911 planting. A Monopole and one of the 1001 Wines. — 4 years ago
