Cline Cellars

Big Break Vineyard Zinfandel 2016

Poured into a decanter roughly an hour prior to service and presented double-blind. The 2016 “Big Break” presents a bright ruby with a deep but transparent core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and no obvious signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of tart, ripe and dried red fruits: cherries, Craisins, red flowers, leather, dried earth and light baking spice. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, though the fruit comes across a lot more ripe. The finish is medium+ and the alcohol is high. I called 2020 Cote du Rhône (Southern), Grenache heavy GSM blend. What a pleasant surprise! I used to drink the smack out of various Cline Zinfandel’s and Big Break was always amongst their better, if not a little more difficult to find. Drinking well now and will continue to do so through 2031, easy. — a month ago

Texture Like Sun Sector Adelaide Hills Red Blend

Actually Sector Red 8, not Adelaide Hills. DELICIOUS. Light but full flavor. Let aerate, swirl around. Serve chilled. Good on day 2. — 9 months ago

Deep Ruby color. Dark fruit, tart with smooth, rich tannins. Bright fruit flavors, without a sugary taste. — a month ago

Sea-Sun Vineyard

Sea Sun California Pinot Noir 2021

Cherry, oak, smoke, and a touch of pepper. I’d have never guessed it was Pinot noir on a blind test but it’s fruity with the tannins and boldness of a Cabernet Sauvignon. — 7 months ago

Doi Shuzo

Sword of the Sun Sake

Very pretty and on the delicate side. Packaging nails the tasting notes with cucumber, green tea, and melon rind, though I also get the banana that many tasters mention. From a small brewery, and a prefecture known for its pristine water sources. Pair with Kumamoto oysters or scallop sashimi. Environmentally sustainable, energy efficient brewery. Alcohol stands out to me at 15.5%. — 8 months ago

La Follette

Sun Chase Vineyard Chardonnay 2017

This wine is still giving everything wonderful. No sign of any age. Full body. Complex. Lingering finish. I just love that it’s a $30something bottle that can stand next to much more expensive bottles. — 3 years ago
