Château le Bourdiley

Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

Perhaps my favorite table Bordeaux yet, this wine restrains oakiness in favor of fresh blueberry, currant, and mocha richness, without becoming liquid bread. Viva la France! — 4 months ago

Ottavio Grignolino

Light, bright, and earthy. Very close to the Alea viva, but best drunken in one go as it seemed to turn too acidic the next night. And the Heisenberg-esque label helps. — 7 days ago

Cuvée Viva Premières Côtes de Blaye Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

Another find in the cellar. Simple and delicious. A little aging helped — 3 months ago

Barons de Rothschild (Lafite)

Le Dix de Los Vascos Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Solid Bordeaux style with the addition of plenty of Chilean sun, you can’t go wrong. Flavours are more Christmas spice than I would have expected with a rich dry fruit finish. Not in the Alma viva leagues but a good drop. In fairness I started this too cold after a spell in the fridge but it really started to evolve as it warmed up and also on the second day. If there was a 9.05 score option that would be right. — 5 months ago

Réserve Vin Gris De Cigare Rosé Grenache Blend 2018

62% Grenache, 38% Mourvèdre, 13.5% ABV

Very henodonistic library pick to crack (100% Stelvin), peach, raspeberry notes, fine tannin, great acidity, slight toast note in the finish. Slightest of chill-room temp best. So delicious now, but allow wine to mature, allowing peach notes to condense into the lees with softer tannin... good things come to those who wait. Viva la Rhone, Buddy!

Per Winemaker - “While virtually all of the ’18 vintage Vin Gris will be consumed within a year of purchase, may there be a few smart cookies who put the wine aside for several years to see it reach its full potential (and will be enormously well rewarded for doing so).” Couldn’t agree more, would love to revisit at 10+.

Paired with planked Salmon, wild rice, and Green Beans.

Domaine des Comtes Lafon

Volnay Santenots-du-Milieu 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2011

Pop and pour. A medium ruby red color. On the nose: floral, forest floor, cherry, herbs, and caramel vanilla. Taste: white pepper, strawberry/raspberry, with a smokey floral medium plus finish framed by medium acidity. Tannins starting to resolve...give this medium body wine a few more years.

This pinot going great with the Imperial Peking Duck tasting menu at this once Michelin starred restaurant (1st Chinese restaurant in north America to earn one).
