Ramisco

Manuel José Colares

Reserva Colares Vinho Tinto 1997

Not as good as prior bottles, fruit is starting to fade, though plenty of acidity to balance what fruit is left, Ramisco grown in the sand in Portugal lasts a long time!! (11% ABV)!!! — a month ago

I have an old bottle this exact wine in the cellar. If YOU are saying it’s starting to fade, God knows what I will think when I pull it!

@Tom Casagrande, on the plus side, 11% ABV, great acid, soft tannins, no soy/mushroom notes, got better as it aired, ready to drink. On the minus side, fruit is a little less expressive, not much aromatically. Will await your note when you open it.

I find these wines magical but also struggled with these same bottlings from 97’, at least according to my Delectable notes 5-6 yrs ago, I wonder too in retrospect whether they go through ‘ dumb’ phases & the wine shuts down, similar to Raffaults Chinon for example. I have a few ‘09 Ramisco bottles cellared but really curious how@Tom Casagrande bottle will turn out @Doug Powers

Manuel José Colares

Casta Ramisco 1997

Don’t know if I settled down the third time around or the wine did, but a more focused experience this time. Who knows, maybe three times a charm. An ethereal light to medium body, all balsamic, mushroom notes & wild black currants. — 6 years ago

Casa Manoel Boullosa

Quinta dos Pesos Carcavelos Vinho Licoroso 1998

Where Madeira is white grapes and Port is red grapes, this is a blend of both red and white and fittingly could be described as a hypothetical combination of the two regions. A rarity and no longer made after 2004. — a year ago

Love these. Just finished my last bottle of ‘88 which showed wonderfully.

Adega Regional de Colares

Região Demarcada Vinho Tinto Ramisco 1945

Unbelievably fresh and acidic still for such an old wine. Beautiful fruit still, and secondary notes. Gorgeous wine. — 4 years ago

Nice! Viva the small but merry band of Colares hipsters! Add the vintage, dude (methinks it is either 2006 or ‘09). Last time drunk was with you@Owen Mazon

One of the rare, growingly extinct wine regions in the world-a coastal area near Lisbon, 50 acres left- that’s it. Ramisco is a red varietal, High acid, low alcohol- only older vintages released. Absolutely one of the best wines I have ever tasted . No words will do it justice. Complexed , aromas off the charts . Delicate . Amazing — 3 years ago

Nutty, butterscotch tones. Brandy notes. — 3 years ago

Incredible finish. Tastes like a Douro, Touriga, but has a very delicate and lingering finish. Love love! — 4 years ago

Dominó (Victor H. A. Claro)

Dominó Colar Tinto Red Blend 2018

From my new hot spot. Light red but not Ramisco. Has real snap & freshness. Let it settle into itself, & like a nervous nelly the cranberry puckering acidity becomes more rounded. — 6 years ago
