Rail 2 Rail

Traditional Method Sussex Brut Sparkling Rosé 2018

One of those days when travel plans are destroyed by a rail strike… two hours late for meal. But this boisterous English sparkler brought huge smiles. Dry strawberry fizz in a weightless silken form. Worked with all eight courses of a tasting menu. Need to drink more English bubbly! — 2 years ago

All The Beautiful Horses Roussanne Pet-Nat & Sour Golden Ale

An exciting co ferment! The first one I’ve had, lots of flavor, funky, not too sweet. Very fun. Kinda pricey at $35 (vinovore) but sometimes you have to treat yourself. Almost no hangover either! — 3 years ago

Drinking virtual rosé with @Ryan Colthorp didn’t realize that this was made in Idaho by the same winery from our bottle at Fork, but grapes grown in Washington! — 3 years ago

Split Rail Vineyard Chardonnay 2021

2021 seems like a good year for the Split Rail vineyard.
This chardonnay is sharp, lean and racey. The 23% new French oak is super subtle - for me it only hints in the nose and in the finish.

Château Musar

Bekaa Valley Obaideh Merwah 2013

My first experience with the 2013 Musar Blanc. I opened this bottle about an hour prior to service and enjoyed over the next three hours. Served at cellar temperature. The wine pours a bright golden color with medium, almost medium+ viscosity. The nose is…fascinating. Notes of lemon, herbs, marigolds, honey, marmalade, cloves, bandaid, and something that reminded me of an old rail yard. No cap. On the palate, lemon curd, slightly underripe star fruit, green herbs, a bitterness that reminds of walnut skin…the wine is really wooly, with a long smokey and rather saline finish. Medium+ acid that builds with air. This is about as Musar as it gets. Rustic, wild and irresistible all the same. I’m sure this bottle isn’t without flaw but that’s sort of what you get with Musar. Anyway, we had no trouble finishing off the bottle. It should be noted that the wine improved with air. I’ll hold my remaining bottle until at least 2028. — 3 years ago
