Bin 600 California Cabernet Shiraz 2018

Blend:78% Cab Sauv from Napa Valley and 22% Shiraz from Central Coast vineyards in the Camatta Hills, planted with Penfold cuttings from So Australia. Deep Ruby with aromas of ripe berry fruits, spice and herbs. On the palate flavors of ripe cherry and blackberry with notes of cinnamon and cacao. Medium+ finish, fine tannins, lively acidity ending with fruit, cedar and herb character. Very nice! — 3 years ago

Bin 9 Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

For a $15 wine this can't get better. Penfold has done an amazing job with their Bins, particularly on the lower price range. For an old world style grape this tastes suspiciously like a new world Napa cab, which I'm perfectly fine with. Good full body (this is 2013, perhaps gets better over time) for its age and smooth tannis. Just what you would expect from a nice cab. Too bad most places are sold out. — 8 years ago

Mollydooker Wines

Velvet Glove McLaren Vale Shiraz

Had this last night., I absolutely adore this producer it's a Penfold at a quarter of the price. Incredible, incredible Shiraz from Australia. Just globs of dark fruit with an incredible lush mouth feel. I'm a huge fan of this. Highly recommend it to everyone! $166 per bottle when you are a wine club member.
Believe me, you will never regret it

Truly incredible sensuous wine. It captures you after the 1st sip!

@Martin G Rivard I've held off joining their list despite my love for Mollydooker because I've found it overpriced. They are so widely distributed that I've found their wines much cheaper at shops. Unless things have changed recently??

Magill Estate Shiraz 2004

Final Wine from the Magnum Dinner (from 750 ml on this occasion) from the historic Magill Estate , first planted in 1844 by Dr Christopher Rawson Penfold. Only 12 acres. Now enveloped by the suburbs of Adelaide. I tend to only drink Magill Estate in excellent vintages as it lives or dies on a single Vineyard unlike most of the other Penfolds Red Cuvees where they can source fruit from their massive resources throughout South Australia to bolster a poor vintage. Not as oaky or ripe as many other Penfolds reds and the better for it IMO. Plummy earthy minerality with some spice and savoury tannins. Beautifully balanced and the best Magill Estate I’ve ever had. — 7 years ago

I grew up around the corner from these vineyards, only wish my folks had bought some cases back then! Still haven’t tasted one, perhaps one day

@Simon Gilligan I was a purchaser of the first vintages of Magill Estate and to be fair the quality in the 80’s was variable. You would be better served by sourcing some from the even years from 2002 on. Production varies between 1500 and 3000 cases. Prior to 1983 the fruit was a contributor to Grange.

Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon 1996

For a few of my followers, thoughts of "707 again..." may be running through their minds. I have been lucky enough to drink this Penfolds masterclass for the last 10 years and make no mistake about it, this beast only gets better. Bouquet of leather, black fruits, cassis and red wood. 19 years has allowed the bouquet to develop into something quite seductive. It's not no Cheval Blanc but it's sexy enough to get me into the mood. Full bodied, high concentration of black fruit is held together with a great acid line and clever fine tannins. Flickers of savory characters, cedar and leather add to the playful nature of this beauty. I'm not a Penfold enthusiast but there is no denying the true brilliance that this wine delivers. The current count of bottles remaining in the cellar is 53. Thank God for Tony and 1996 707. 95 points — 10 years ago
