Frank Cornelissen

Susucaru Seventh Edition Rosato Malvasia Blend 2018

Frank appeals to the lover of raw wine - crunchy, cidery, angular, untouched. I appreciate his wine but I don’t think they live up to his cult status or clamor for allocation. Well made but not extremely well made.

This was, for the most part, exactly what I thought it’d be. It’s very good. Backboned and domesticated. A pale crimson and aromas of fresh raspberries and dark tilled soil. Dirt. Ten days of skin contact - dark like Claret with weight and tannin, but elegance and roundness from white grapes. Flavors of tart raspberries and wild strawberry - salts and minerals.

@Kyle Harvey I’ve never been lucky enough to try either. Hope to though! Thanks for the thoughts

@Kyle Harvey agree. I would suggest his cult status stemmed from his Crus, not his entry level. I enjoy all of his wines, but I would agree about the Rosato and Rosso and could certainly see given the hype surrounding Frank why one would be underwhelmed drinking only those wines. @Ely Cohn if you see any single cru’s jump on them!

Great notes. I had a bottle of the 2018 susucaru rosato that was extremely reductive and never fully showed... a big disappointment. Glad to hear that it was probably a one off.

Susucaru Nineth Edition Rosato Malvasia Blend 2018

Nearly hopelessly reductive... But after maybe an hour of aeration it started to show some pretty floral aromas amid the funk and barnyard. Had that quality of some rosatos of being truly in between a red and what you’d expect of a rose... good acid and cherry flavors, crunchy tannins and the Malvasia adds some high tone jasmine perfume. Extremely reductive but could have been just this bottle... — 11 days ago

Nice and lite - perfect with tapas dessert selection. Not too sweet. They have it listed with the ports but it’s definitely not. — a month ago

Floral and salty, almost clean/sterile nose - briney punch in the face with grapefruit, lemon, and olive. Almost effervescent it packs so big a punch. Love this. — 3 days ago
