Not part of our little “Vosne-side of NSG” blind shootout, but it might as well have been. Opened earlier during dinner as a blind, I thought it looked very NSG. Why I had it there was mostly down to the elimination process in our blind options. Right on I was, but had it younger.

Very dark fruited on the nose, along with earthy, spicy notes and hints of dark chocolate and moss. The palate was quite pure and elegant, with grippy tannins and an earthy, lightly mineral (which didn’t seem to grow with air) finish. When drank side-by-side with the pair of 19’ NSG during dinner, it didn’t quite have the depth not intensity of the two. It certainly wasn’t as bombastic as the MG, nor had the obvious “goût de terrior” notes of the Grivot, but had a certain elegance I liked. — 2 years ago

Good quality - excellent on a daily basis. The wine is made with Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Syrah, Cabernet e some others red grapes. It is medium body and fresh on the palate. The tannin is firm but velvet and is in balance with the fruit. Can drink now: not suitable for ageing.

A fun 09 side by side next to the MG Ech. This was my first Jouan and it was really quite stunning. More masculine than the MG, expectedly, and the CSD terroir really shines through. Exceptional length as well.

Initially pretty muted before a sufficient decant allows the sister’s magic touch to slowly be revealed. When it finally does come around, it shows superb delineation, balance, detail and finally does unfurl a wondrous bouquet. Fresh red and black fruit, exotic spice, and a touch of saline on the energized and mineral infused finish.

It shows good verve and signature MG elegance and purity. There is plenty of depth but what’s missing is the length and persistence you expect from this wine. In hindsight a pre-dinner decant would have served well, because the last pour was the best. Nonetheless, more time will allow for the palate to come around. — 5 years ago

My 1,000th bottle on Delectable!!

Sorry for the long note in advance, as I truly value brevity and conciseness.

2 hour plus decant. Dark purple color. Nose contains massive vanilla and oak. If I drank blind I would have guessed Spain or Portugal, as it was just like the wines we had in Mallorca but higher quality; but honestly it’s like nothing I’ve had before.! Wine is super sweet with very little fruit. Deep and concentrated. Dessert in a glass! Huge vanilla and maple syrup flavors; like pancakes in a glass. I bet this would pair amazing with breakfast for dinner - eggs, steak, sausage, bacon, hash browns, and pancakes. While not my style, I could drink this all day long. Amazing texture and long finish. Definitely high quality. How a wine could taste like this is beyond me!!! Points for being totally unique and well made!!

I bought this as Sofia & I visited the property in September of 2015 when this was being birthed. I meant to enjoy it on her birthday a while back but ended up in the ER from food poisoning I had at a restaurant. Ugly for a week.

Franciacorta is Italy’s sparkling region much like Champagne is to France. It is very near to the Italian summer hot spot, Lake Garda.

The body on this is beautiful, rich, almost fluffy with tiny beads. Starts with lemon chiffons, green apple, grapefruit, yellow melons, some lime notes, white cream, dry herbs, white spice, slightly moist, powdery to crushed chalkiness, saline, yellow & white flowers, perfect acidity and a well made, knitted, beautiful balanced & tensioned, elegant finished that lasts two-minute that falls on minerality.

Annamaria Clementi Reserve is tribute to the founder, Maurizio Zanella’s mother and made in only the very best of years.

It is a blend of; 82% Chardonnay, 15% Pinot Nero & 3% Pinot Bianco. 6 months is small oak casks, 63 mg of sulfur dioxide per L. Zero dosage and 13% alcohol.

92-93 this is great. Earth, chocolate , and cherry. Hard to beat for $27 at Costco. @Vanessa they have at SLP and MG. Check it out! I’d love to see your notes on this.
That was PnP. After 2 hrs this is really opening up. It’s complex and structured and sticky adding to previous notes tobacco and teeth coating tannins. Wish I’d have purchased more than a case. — 3 years ago

The 2012 Cathiard Aux Reignots (along with Malconsorts and Petits Monts, my favorite 1er cru Vosne vineyard), is much more masculine and dark fruited than the MG. Really a great side by side. There is some reduction and prevalent new oak, but there is just such depth and structure to this wine and it’s destined to live for the long haul. But unlike how reticent many 12’s can be right now, as the reduction dissipates, it offers a great deal of pleasure. Reignots is really a special vineyard. — 5 years ago

IMO, MG makes one of the absolute best Clos Vougeot’s. This one drank very youthful and primary but all the material is there for this to be a fantastic bottle down the road. It showed much more producer and vineyard than it did the vintage. There was none of the overt greenness that you can often get with 2011’s. Along with Rousseau, Dujac and Tremblay, MG’s 2011’s are very impressive.

After an initial shyness it does reveal itself after a multi hour decant and begins to waft from the glass with aromas of dark fruit, florals and spices. On the palate it’s deep, elegant and pure with fine grained tannins, excellent focus and delineation. But you can tell it wishes to resume its slumber. It often went back and forth from showing great fruit expression to then aromas of woodsmoke and savory herbs. But the herbal qualities are not at all off putting and just add to complexity. I would love to check in on this again with more bottle age. It is clear that it will have a lot to offer those with more patience than me. — 5 years ago

🍇🥰A beautiful and sincere expression of Barbaresco, of the true and hard Basarin cru, almost a Barolo with a lot of tannins, a seductive nose and finish with very pleasant balsamic sensations accompanied by rose and cherry. Probably still young, it needs time. Very little intervention both in the vineyard and in the cellar under 50 Mg/L. — 6 years ago

Definitely had this as a lesser grand cru by process of elimination in our blind options, as without them I wouldn’t have had it in grand cru territory. This was so light in comparison with the NSG’s, especially the 19’ pair. It wasn’t exactly a bad thing though as I really enjoyed the energy of the wine.

Red-fruited and spicy aromas, along with hints of flowers and black tea. The palate was probably the juiciest of the lot, with a very silky feel, and lovely salinity. Drinking it side-by-side with the other burgs, this was more mineral than the Chevillon and MG, but didn’t quite have the intense minerality of the Grivot. Like the 12’ Chevillon, I felt it didn’t quite have the depth nor intensity of the 19’ pair. Wonder if vintage played a big factor in this observation. All said, I found this very elegant and better of the two 12’s. — 2 years ago

This unoaked red wine can be enjoyed so easily. The wine is dry, medium (-) body and it has a good balance between fruit and tannin. It shows typical Touriga Nacional notes like black fruit, violet and a hint of spices.
