Very interesting NY (Finger Lakes) white utilizing grapes native to Central Europe. Herbaceous and spicy on the nose with tropical fruit notes. Very refreshing! Almost like Sauvignon Blanc and Gewurtztraminer got together! — 10 years ago
This was a spectacular bottle of wine. Just scored Applewine that spent 21 years on its lees. The bead was perfect. — 10 years ago

Just snagged this interesting zin @ VA Bch's Hilltop Taste (a blast from my past, this place having spawned from the late/great Peter Coe's Taste Unlimited). While I have had plenty of Oakville Winery's cabs, this is my first taste of their zins (crazy impressive as a bargain under $25 retail!). I catch cherry with a hint of cedar (likely new oak) off its nose (small bowled stemware and zero wait time, on my part). After a couple of nose hits and twirls, once in one's mouth she goes blueberry-centric touched by vanilla and a NC packhouse of yesteryear [where barn-hung and properly cured tobacco leaves (evil weed she is) were artfully, interestingly tied to demonstrate quality] cast against the well-oiled and better used leather of a McGregor infielder's glove (from my fadingly distant past).
The structure of this Zin compete's with the utility of that glove (going there now for a manuscript of a different flavor, thoughts of Spring, the girl behind the backstop and my timeless romance with yet another season). Buy this wine and give Taste, and "peace, a chance." Here's to the greater good coupled with the moment, cause "it's the time of the season when love runs high..." (vintage Zombies, something about which to think and a little mid-day zin) ✌🏻️🍷👣⚾️🕶🌀 — 10 years ago
Dark purple/black color. Bright aromas of dark berry fruit, dark chocolate and a hint of burnt caramel. Deep ripe plum and currant fruit on the palate with hints of dill and baking spices. Long and luxurious (oak is certainly present) finish. Bold, rich and firm, but not as tannic as I would have guessed. Nice acidity as well. Solid FLX version of this Eastern European varietal. — 2 years ago
Lightly carbonated, slightly dry, delicious unique flavor. The hint of lavender perfectly compliments the sweet honey. A local treasure all around. — 4 years ago

Very nice Riesling that will age well. Hints of honeysuckle and lychee. Truly a delight. — 9 years ago
Surprisingly it still has quite a youthful color. Just beginning to show hints of garnet oxidation. Medium bodied and medium tannins. More Old World than New World, with notes of soft dark plum, black tea, wild black cherry. Hints of clove, leather, tobacco, and earthiness. Complex and elegant. — 10 years ago

A vibrant and cheerful South African white blend composed of 60% Chenin Blanc, 20% Muscat, and 20% Chardonnay. Produced in the McGregor region, this wine leans into youthful freshness, aromatic charm, and easy-drinking appeal without becoming overly sweet or simplistic. A surprisingly polished everyday white that overdelivers on pure drinkability.
Aromas & Flavors
Expressive notes of tropical fruit, ripe pear, melon, white peach, citrus blossom, and soft floral nuances jump from the glass. The Muscat adds aromatic lift and perfume, while the Chenin Blanc keeps the wine energetic and refreshing. Subtle orchard fruit and light honeyed tones round out the finish.
Mouthfeel
Light to medium-bodied with refreshing acidity and a smooth, uplifting texture. Crisp and youthful, yet balanced enough to maintain freshness through the finish. Very approachable and easy to enjoy casually.
