Didn’t know Kistler was in the Pinot business until this showed up from WB…and while a very good one, not up to Kistler’s level in Chardonnay…very nicely fruit forward, but a little too sparkly at the front and a little too wooden at the back. Solid but not exceptional….falls short of Loring & Testarrossa — 2 years ago
Loved the ‘09 and a fan of Shea. This was near the best of both. Bright red fruit. No tannin. Nothing not to like. Would buy a case of it if I could find it. — 3 years ago
Love anything Loring…this one is OTH but not so far over as to be undrinkable…can taste the perfect bones under the barnyard/funk — 4 years ago
Very enjoyable wine with cola, spice and red fruit notes in nose and taste — 5 years ago
Overwhelming bee pollen, a sweet rawness in the bouquet. Clementines. The childhood memory of the fragrance of running through an unkempt garden. Rose thorns.
Intense minerality. Limestone. Soil that births luscious fruit. The musk of nature, starting with a tangerine envelope of flavor and ending with a distinct pungency of grapefruit.
First had this at Loring Place in the West Village. Love it at home, too. — 6 years ago
N: dusty. Plummy
P: sour cherry. Cherry. Hint of vinegar. Gorgeous kiss of spice on finish. Lilacs. Rose petal.

Wes Hagen, 20 year veteran wine maker at Clos Pepe Vineyard, joined our group and gave us a master class in Santa Barbara pinot noir. We tried 11 PNs from 2004-2010, made by Loring, AP Vin, Sandler, Siduri, and Brewer-Clifton. This AP Vin was my #2 although the group rates it closer to the middle of the pack. No longer producing unfortunately… — 2 years ago
Another Pinot I’ve had several btls of and somehow not yet rated….love this and I’m not sure I’ve had a wine this old in better shape…for that I credit the twist off cap. Very sparkly on opening but mellows quickly, excellent cherry fruit, just a touch acidic on the back end. I think another Loring connected producer — 4 years ago
Another excellent Loring Pinot…this one Sierra Mar vs earlier Gary’s vineyard…clear vs the Gary’s being muddy, straight up cherry on the nose but still refined, solid fruit but not overwhelming. — 5 years ago

Nose: dusty some va.
P: syrupy. Old.

Nose: interesting white flowers. Elegant honeysuckle.
Palate: elegant honey. Very delicious. A touch of rs but not too much.

Somehow it looks like I haven’t reviewed this yet despite halfway thru the batch and possibly my favorite ever Pinot?? Powerful fruit on the nose but far more nuanced on the palate - superb expression of the grape. More recent vintages no worse for the (lack of) wear.
