Opened to celebrate my son’s 15th birthday and poured alongside the 2006 Eagle’s Trace “Latitude 38”. The 2006 Seavey Caravina pours a deep garnet color with a completely opaque core. No obvious signs of age in the glass. Medium+ viscosity. On the nose, medium+ intensity, with strong pipe tobacco notes, currants, black cherry, figs, some green bell pepper and leather. On the palate dark fruits dominate with black cherry, black currants and blackberries. The tobacco and leather is also there accompanied by semi-sweet baking chocolate, baking spice and some anise. The wine finishes dry with medium tannins, most of which are well integrated at this point. Medium+ acid. Medium plus alcohol. The finish is long. Another very lovely vintage of Caravina, aging gracefully.

2019 vintage. Interesting wine. Medium-heavy body. Decanted and tasted after 45 mins-2.5 hrs. Seemingly unfined/unfiltered as it was throwing a little chunky and powdery sed. Ended up tasting more like an experiment in combining California AVA's together on the fly/in the same glass. Big ripeness, mixed with a Cran-Grape component with a generous amount of additional acidity thrown in. Was better earlier on and got weirder the longer it was open. Obviously suffering through the indiscretions of youth but give this one some time and patience. Needs a lot of latitude. 9.23.23. — a year ago
Very berry, not too sweet in the pallet. Semi- dry. Medium to full-bodied. Nice bite on the finish. — 3 years ago

Tonight we were very excited to try this Pinot Noir from Cloudy Bay, hailing from Central Otago on the South Island of New Zealand, the southerly latitude offering cooling influences, a great foundation for an elegant Pinot Noir.
We’re tasting the Cloudy Bay, Te Wahi, Pinot Noir, Central Otago, New Zealand.
It is medium ruby.
On the nose, there is medium (+) intensity of aromas including ripe black cherry, strawberry, pomegranate, violet, licorice, black tea, fresh mint, nutmeg, vanilla, cardamom, and forest floor notes.
Characteristics on the palate match with the nose. It’s a dry wine with medium(+) acidity, a medium(+) body, high alcohol (14%), medium and refined tannins, and a medium(+) finish.
This wine is extremely vibrant and characterful, with a strong structure indicating age-ability.

Wasn’t expecting to like English sparkling nearly as much as I’m enjoying this bottle. A truly bizarre combination of ripe fruit and racy acidity (higher than the average for champagne) that can only come from somewhere this far north > 50 degrees latitude (long growing season + long days during growing season). Lemon curd, green apple danish, even notes of pear and passion fruit. Bond may have to trade out his Bollinger for this. — 4 years ago
