Año Cero La Consulta Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

The first time I tasted this bottling was about 18 months ago, it has developed nicely since. Oak vanilla is still quite prominent - don’t know how because only 30% was matured in oak barrel for about 10 month only - but it’s much more integrated, playing nicely with candied black fruits, leather, incense, and light herbs. Palate is rich and layered - again hard to grasp given the minimum oak treatment. Taste of chocolate, prune too.
Tasty and satisfying.

La Consulta Malbec 2020

Deep Ruby color, purple hues, aromas of red and black fruits with spice, aged for 8 months on oak. On the palate flavors of black cherry and blackberry with vanilla, cacao and pepper spice. Fine tannins, medium+ length ending with fruit and mineral spice. Nice! — 8 months ago

Finca Altamira La Consulta Mendoza Malbec 2003

We recently pulled some cases out of storage, which haven't seen the light of day for nearly 15 years, so I'll have some fun posts in the next several months.

Nose has split oak firewood (barely seasoned), cigar box, moist cedar shavings, blackberry, dried black currant, dried roses, fresh violets, moist leather, dried lavender dark chocolate powder and graphite pencil shavings.

Palate has chocolate covered blackberry, tarry black cherry, cedar sawdust, dark chocolate bark, prune, anise candy, clay pot and leather. Very long finish, subtle tannins exist still, amazing wine!

Cork pulled, 2h rest, then decanted 6h, a perfect bottle, still young, future bottles may be 2023-30, without concern.

Perfect pair to homemade burgers from a local farmer in Columbia Co. NY (Kinderhook Farm), cooked to a beautiful medium-rare served on toasted brioche burger rolls.
