Bedrock Wine Co.

Evangelho Vineyard Heritage Zinfandel Blend 2013

One may get the idea that these grapes have the potential at any moment in time in the winemaker's hands to come out as a monstrous beast. I come from the area this was grown in and for the most part contra costa is no great wine growing region and especially not near the delta. It's easy to see the meticulous care and winemaking being expressed here in perfect balance. I can't say this wine is too interesting or blooming with nuance but I can say bravo for setting a benchmark and showing that a hot desert environment with old vines and a lot of consciousness can make something drinkable in the daytime. 🙏 these ancient vines are getting taken care of and let's be honest, the people at bedrock are turning trash into treasure by doing this service. — 9 years ago

Schneider Obsthof Am Steinberg

Sankt Martin 2020

Part of the still cider section in our cider study. Off-dry so pretty nice. As mentioned in previous notes, I found out that I prefer some bubbles and sugar in my cider from this study. Notes lost, so here are some online ones:

Semi-dry - fruit, seasoning and finesse! Orchard fruits collected very late from ancient high trunks - at St. Martin 2020! Mood on foggy autumn days with sunny lunchtime hours!

In the heart of the original Wetterau - a still wildly romantic area with wooded hills, grazed lowlands and rustic villages - the ancient high trunk apple trees of our Demeter colleague Wolfgang grow on the slopes on rugged rock and fertile loess. In his memory, the fruit trees have always been large and full! The traditional wine varieties thrive there - above all bean apple, winter rambour, prince apple, rose apple and other forgotten varieties. On three days late in autumn in wintry temperatures, we collected them by hand and spent our apple treasure home, gently squeezed and expanded with a lot of time and love. After almost a year of storage in the large tank, this wonderful essence of the orchard was bottled.

Wendouree

Clare Valley Cabernet Malbec 2002

Aromas of Iodine Earth Menthol/Eucalyptus, Bark of Medium plus Intensity. On the palate red and black savoury fruits which fill every corner of the mouth. A full bodied old school Australian Cabernet blend of amazing intensity coming from those ancient vines in the Clare Valley. Wendouree is an Australian vinous treasure which @Ceccherini Cristiano and I post about from time to time. The wine finishes with ultra fine persistent Tannins. I have not always been a fan of Wendouree (see previous Delectable notes) but this is an excellent wine. They probably need at least 15 years before they start to hit their straps. — 5 years ago
